Service Opportunities for Young Adults

Episcopal Service Corps and Young Adult Service Corps are both excellent ways for young adults to plug into communities in order to serve the church and the world.

Episcopal Service Corps is a network of young adults ages 21-32 serving through locally organized intentional communities that are dedicated to:

  • Serving others in solidarity
  • Promoting justice in community
  • Deepening spiritual awareness
  • Discerning vocation
  • Living simply

Everyone serving through ESC commits to a year of volunteer local service, as well as a household Rule of Life, regular spiritual direction, discernment and community practices. In return for volunteering, Corps members receive housing, health insurance, and small stipends to cover living expenses, transportation and food.

For many young adults, this year serves as an opportunity for vocational discernment broadly understood. Most of our participants move into positions of leadership within their local churches, the wider Episcopal Church, and community organizations.

YASC

The Young Adult Service Corps is a ministry for Episcopalians ages 21-30 who are interested in exploring their faith in new ways by living and serving in communities around the world. Applicants must have a high degree of maturity and possess a faith commitment, the willingness to be a humble guest, and the ability to be an authentic companion.

What is the difference between YASC and the Episcopal Service Corp (ESC)?

YASC is the international missionary program of The Episcopal Church and all of the placements are outside of the United States. YASC volunteers are sent out on their own to be part of and work alongside local communities around the Anglican Communion. The Episcopal Service Corps is a network of intentional communities located in Episcopal dioceses across the United States.
